Kalie Family: Episode 1

I suppose a good way to get this blog party started is to provide a brief overview of our family:

Silas is currently 6 months old and getting very close to crawling.  He likes to push up on his hands and feet, creating a starfish push-up position.  We aren't sure if he's preparing for the armed forces or band camp, but we love watching his progress.  He started making the "dada" sound about 3 weeks ago and must love listening to the sound of his voice because there isn't a day that goes by in which Silas does not scream happily over and over again.  Sometimes he sounds like some sort of tornado warning alarm but Mommy can't help but laugh every time he does it.  Silas is also allergic to milk-based formula and was given rice cereal for the first time today.  He didn't like it very much, but hopefully he will feel differently about solids when he tries bananas.  He is teething but has yet to cut a tooth, so we always keep our house stocked with Orajel. He also enjoys watching his Your Baby Can Read videos and we can not wait for him to start responding.  In general, he is a happy little booger who brings smiles to our faces every single day.

Seth will be turning 3 on October 3rd and always has something to say... as most of you know!  I know some people from Facebook stated they were going to miss his "Sethisms," so I will keep posting them here.  Even though Seth can be jealous of Silas, we are still pleased with how much he loves his little brother.  He is constantly walking up to him with a big smile on his face and saying things such as "Hi Handsome" or "Get that out of your mouth, Silly."  Silas loves his big brother too and is constantly smiling and laughing at Seth.  If Seth does something that makes Silas laugh, Seth will usually keep doing it to keep Silas laughing.  In terms of reading, we feel Seth is getting pretty close.  Yesterday, he pointed to Silas' "Baby Trend" highchair and said "Baby... The End."  He has known the alphabet for over a year, we're just waiting for things to"click."  Potty training, on the other hand, has been somewhat of a battle considering he is 2 and loves refusing to do things you want him to do.  With all the vacation time lately, we had taken a break from the dirty deed but I plan to resume battle tomorrow.  In the words of Wayne and Garth, "Game on!"  Seth also likes to stay up past 10 pm, even when he woke up at 7:30 am and never took a nap, so Mommy and Daddy don't get much sleep these days.  I always tell people that when we are old and gray, we will give anything to re-live these days and I never let myself forget that, regardless of my frustration or lack of sleep.

Sydney is 12 years old and will be starting 7th grade in a few weeks.  There is a lot I can say about her age and what she is going through right now but I know Sydney wouldn't want me blabbing about things she'll consider personal so I will just say she's at an interesting age.  I'm sure all of us remember how fun our Jr. High years were!  She has about a week left of vacation and got to visit 3 states this summer.  She started her vacation in Tucson, AZ with my aunt Kelly; the boys and I were there too, but we stayed at my parents' house so she could have her own vacation.  Sydney got to go shopping with Aunt Kelly, play around with her friends Lexi and Naomi, and had somewhat of a Harry Potter marathon with my cousin Cory and his fiancee Carrie. Cory also took her to see the new Harry Potter movie, which I know she was stoked about.  After spending a week in Tucson, she caught a flight to Portland, OR and spent another week with her Aunt Kori.  She doesn't get to see her Aunt Kori very much so she was most looking forward to this trip.  She flew home a few days ago and is currently in Oklahoma with her mom visiting family; they come home a week from today.  By the time she comes back to our place, she will have been away for a month.  We miss her a lot but we are very happy she was able to visit family and have a lot of fun this summer.

Kameron and Melissa: Kameron works in Sales for a company that makes reproduction parts for classic cars.  He works over 40 hours every week and at least two Saturdays a month to provide for us; I am very grateful to call him my husband. Kameron busts his butt and is almost always 1st or 2nd in Sales out of about 17 sales guys.  As for me, I am about to embark on my last semester of grad school and can't wait until I find a job and our lives are back to normal.  For those of you who don't know or may have forgotten, I was laid off in November 2009 and have not been able to find a full-time job since.  I am nervous but very excited to see what the future holds for us; there are a lot of possible career paths I can take and I'm eager to see which path is laid out in front of me.

Well, it's past 10:30 pm and Seth is still awake.  Time to go be a productive Mom and get that boy to sleep.  Until we meet again, Blogger.
